**EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST**

The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute (QIMR Berghofer) is seeking new members to join its diverse and dynamic Council. These important and sought-after membership positions make a purposeful contribution to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Queenslanders and those beyond our borders.

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading medical research institute, in the pursuit of _Better health through impactful medical research_. Our vision is to _Lead the way to significant innovation in health - nationally and globally. _We have a strong focus on cancer, infectious diseases, inflammation, genetics of diseases, mental health and neuroscience, population health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. We work in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, nationally and internationally, to support ground-breaking research discoveries that save lives and improve quality of life.

The Council’s role is to oversee and manage the Institute, including setting its strategic direction and ensuring appropriate planning and financial stewardship. Council members contribute to enhancing the Institute's public standing and inspiring supporters and partners across the community, including corporates and philanthropic donors, to invest in ground-breaking research and create impact together.

We are seeking experienced members with skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas: Indigenous health (policy or practice), commercialisation of research/intellectual property, public or academic administration, health or clinical research, health ethics, financial management, fundraising, human resources in a research environment, cybersecurity, sustainability.

Corporate governance experience is essential, and completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course (or equivalent) is highly desirable. Previous board experience and knowledge of health or medical research or academic environments would be an advantage. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Council of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research is the governing body of QIMR Berghofer and is a statutory body governed by the _Queensland Institute of Medical Research Act _1945. Appointments to the Council are made for a period of up to four years by the Governor-in-Council, on the recommendation of the Minister for Health.

Remuneration is paid in accordance with the Queensland Government "Remuneration Procedures for Part-Time Chairs and Members of Queensland Government Bodies." Please note that the Queensland Cabinet Handbook requires that information on a person’s suitability for appointment to the Council of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research must be obtained for all appointments. A range of probity checks is undertaken on identified nominees (not applicants). Details are shown in Part B of the Application Form.
