**About the Centre/Service**
Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten is in a separate custom-designed building adjoining Oakleigh Primary School. We are part of the school community with many of the kindergarten children going on to attend the primary school. In 2025 we are increasing our 4yo group size and as such are looking forward to welcoming a couple of extra team members to the service. We provide sessional three and four year old kindergarten programs. We offer play based, outdoor rich, emergent learning. By using the children’s interests, we can build their knowledge and skill base, teach them to work with others, and share in the thrill of exploring ideas. We collaborate with children using their ideas and curiosity as the starting point for our planning. Some interests may last a few days, a week, or over many weeks. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced, and work as a team to provide learning based on children’s needs and interests. We work in partnership with families and the broader school community and believe a strong partnership between the home, kindergarten and local community fosters and enriches learning. We value input from families and children into the program and in the assessment of learning. We see the children, their family, and staff as a community of learners working together. Our modern facilities and outdoor garden space provide for an ever-changing learning environment. Most importantly we aim to stimulate each child’s creativity and imagination, to build on their natural curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning. We currently have a rating of Exceeding the National Quality Framework. We work to maintain a high standard of professional understanding, education and practice relating to child safety standards and children’s protection from harm. We work to promote the inclusion of all children and families. Child Safety Statement of Intent Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten and Out of School Hours Care has a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure the safety of all children who attend the service. We believe children have a right to feel safe and secure, to feel safe in their culture and to be supported to have a positive sense of self. At our service, children’s dignity is maintained. We maintain a high standard of professional understanding, education and practice relating to child safety standards and children’s protection from harm. We are committed to providing and promoting the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and the cultural safety of children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds and safety of children who identify with the LGBTIQ community. We are fully committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for children with a disability. Our priority is the safety and protection from harm for each child, as such we will take the appropriate steps that we believe necessary to ensure their safety and wellbeing. In the event of any concerns about the safety of children who attend this service we are legally and ethically obliged to report it to the appropriate authorities. We recognise that it is the whole community’s responsibility to ensure that children are safe, and we actively promote this to ensure adults are empowered to understand the steps to take when there are concerns around child safety. We are committed to providing support to families in their role in caring for and providing a safe environment for their children. Please speak to us if you need access to information or resources.
