This position sits within the Environmental Prediction Services (EPS) team, in the Community Services Group. The objective of the Marine and Antarctic EPS team is to deliver unsurpassed environmental prediction services for marine, coastal and oceans hazards offshore, in coastal waters and on the Australian and the Antarctic continents, including surrounding ice areas and international waters. To deliver these objectives the team is divided into two sub teams, Ocean and Antarctic Services and Tsunami, Marine and Coastal Hazards. Both these teams operate within a footprint across Hobart, Adelaide and Melbourne and together support and deliver a number of different services.

The Ocean and Antarctic Services team specialises in ocean dynamics, sea level, tides, ice and high latitude weather. The team is comprised of specialists who design, develop and manage the capabilities required to deliver the oceans, tides, Antarctic and ice products and services. The team monitors ocean and ice conditions and delivers ocean and tidal analysis and predictions. The team stands up operationally as required to deliver Antarctic weather and ice services, including in a customer decision support role. Our customers come from a range of BSG priority sectors, community and emergency services.

The Antarctic Meteorologist will have an excellent understanding of the science, systems and technology and processes behind our Antarctic weather and ice services. As part of the team, you will contribute to the operations and continuous improvement of these services.

You will display a dedicated curiosity about Antarctic meteorology and the impacts of the evolving weather, ocean, cryospheric and climate landscapes. Employing personal drive and integrity you will be a member of a high-performing team providing services to our customers and contributing to ongoing improvement. You will grow and develop your competencies across Antarctic weather and ice services.
