The Royal Melbourne is one of Victoria’s largest hospitals providing a comprehensive range of health services including acute, sub-acute, general, and specialist medical services throughout inpatient and community based facilities. We are also a proud part of the world renowned Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, working in collaboration to advance research for continuous improvement of clinical care.

We are looking to appoint a friendly and efficient desk clerk who wants to become a vital part of the ward team. This ward clerk position is based on 6 South East ward, the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Respiratory Medicine unit of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (city campus). This is a 30 bedded ward which includes a 12 bedded High Dependency Unit. The unit provides care from post-operative patients who have had heart and lung surgery and for respiratory medical patients. The environment incorporates aspects of critical care, cardiac and respiratory care and surgical care.

**This position is for 44 hours a fortnight and consists of 4 set shifts each week**:12 hour shift on a Thursday (7.20am - 8.00pm) and a 10 hour shift on a Friday (7.30am - 6.00pm)**

The ward clerk has an essential role in the smooth running of the ward and in assisting patients, families, and hospital staff of all disciplines. In taking on this role you can join a welcoming and supportive team who are committed to delivering high quality patient care.

The ward clerk role is ideal for a self-motivated person who can handle working in what can be a busy clinical environment. Working at the reception desk at the entrance of the ward, the main duties of the ward clerk are administrative, receptionist and clerical work related to patient admissions, in-patient stays and discharges, working under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager. Other roles include being the first point of contact for visitors arriving on the ward, answering the phone, data entry, booking appointments, maintaining clinical information systems and staff support. Computer skills are essential, as is the ability to work and prioritise in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

**About You**:
The successful applicant will possess:

- An interest in working within the public health service
- Commitment to patient-focused service
- Ability to work autonomously while also liaising with a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and computer skills
- Ability to enter data in an accurate and timely manner
- Willingness to assist in team projects
- Able to commit to working 2 long shifts on set days each week

Preferable but not essential:

- Previous relevant clerical, administrative or receptionist experience
