Berwick Primary School is a large school that has a consistent enrolment of 950 students. The school was established in 1857 and relocated to the current site in October 2003. The school is located in the south-eastern suburbs.
Our committed and knowledgeable team of teachers and support staff combines youth with experience and offers a variety of skills and capabilities that complement the school¿s broad curriculum and extra-curricular programs.
Engagement and wellbeing are key to success at school, and we work to positively influence students so that they are resilient and develop a desire to learn and achieve personal success across a wide range of areas whilst being mindful of supporting their social and emotional wellbeing.
Many varied opportunities are available to students in the areas of the arts, physical education and information and communication technology. A 1:1 iPad program operates in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 with class sets in the younger year levels and specialist areas. This technology has facilitated deeper learning in many curriculum areas. There are also many opportunities for students to participate in sporting activities as well as participation in the school aerobics and Human Powered Vehicle programs. Productions, choirs, bands and participation in Wakakirri form part of our arts program. At Berwick Primary School all students learn Spanish. We believe that languages play an important role in developing our students¿ capability to understand themselves in relation to others.
The school is an authorised World School in the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme. We believe that it is our role to prepare our students to be active citizens of the global world that is the 21st century. Students need to confront life and all of the changes that it brings. Our teachers empower their students to develop the skills and attitudes that will meet the needs of the future. Our curriculum reflects this and our units of inquiry are planned to be globally significant. Each individual child is at the centre of our planning for learning and we encourage our students to be prepared to take a risk and challenge themselves with their learning. We support the individual needs of each student and value their unique contribution to our school. We are very excited about our journey and its impact on the learning of each of our students.
