Moreton Bay, Australia Environment and Science Full time

The role also works to monitor and respond to compliance matters in an at times busy visitor location (especially weekends and holiday periods), and as such an ability to work with a high level of autonomy and judgment is well regarded. Communication and working with on island stakeholders and community is essential, as is coordinating emergency response activities with other response agencies.
The Coastal and Islands Region covers some wonderfully unique and diverse landscapes stretching from the world's largest sand island and very popular World Heritage-listed K'gari (Fraser Island), in the north to the recreational fishing haven of the Southern Bay Islands in the south. The region manages six of the seven recreation areas in Queensland: K'gari (Fraser Island), Mulgumpin (Moreton Island), Bribie Island, Inskip Peninsula, Cooloola and Minjerribah that adjoins Naree Budjong Djara National Park on North Stradbroke Island. It is a region that manages and preserves a number of iconic cultural heritage sites in Queensland such as Fort Lytton and St Helena.
The region's parks and forest estate covers 269,213ha, and consists of seven National Parks, 15 Conservation Parks and two State Forests and Resources Reserves. It may be considered a small region but it is not without large challenges.
The position is based on Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) which is classed as a remote location and the staff work 9-day shifts, with 5-days off to allow for transfer back to Brisbane and Rostered Days Off. Self-contained accommodation is provided at Ben Ewa Ranger Base with this position. Living on the island is beautiful, however access to shops and other services is limited with no island based medical services or schools. Barge services and a passenger ferry operates on a daily basis but time tabling means that daily commuting from the mainland is not feasible. As a unique work location, it is strongly encouraged to discuss the position and any questions you may have with the contact officer to assist in considering your suitability for the role.
