Eligibility

Division Responsibilities
The Home and Residential Division is responsible for providing aged care to senior
Australians in the setting that suits their needs and preferences. It is responsible for the
reform work to improve aged care services at home and in residential care. This includes:
- The design, development and implementation of a reformed in-home aged care
program, as recommended by the Royal Commission.
- Implementation of the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) funding
model for residential care.
- Commissioning a new single assessment workforce.
- Development, implementation and the management of efficient, effective and
sustainable funding programs for home and residential care.
- Data and analysis to support evidence-based decisions and policies.
Branch Responsibilities
The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety recommended fundamental
reforms to in-home aged care, to better support older Australians to remain independent in
their own homes for longer.
The Support at Home Branch was established in 2021 to spearhead innovative policy
development and support government decision making on in-home aged care reform.
The branch is responsible for end to end policy development and program design for in
- home aged care reform, stakeholder and community engagement and consultation,
implementation and transition planning, and ICT systems design.
Section Responsibilities
The Support at Home Policy section is responsible for overarching policy design for in-home
aged care reform. The team is working on reform options for every aspect of the policy
framework for in-home aged care, including eligibility, service inclusions and care
management, payment arrangements, funding model and program evaluation. We work
closely with the Quality and Assurance Division on regulatory design and legislative drafting.
We collaborate with our colleagues within the branch on assessment policy,
implementation planning, ICT business design and program costings. We consult regularly
with older Australians and their families, as well as aged care providers and professionals.
We work with our colleagues across Government on whole-of-care sector issues, especially
the Departments of Social Services and Veterans Affairs, and central agencies.

Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Director in the Support at Home Policy team you will lead a small sub-team
to support the Director to develop and refine policy advice for reformed in-home aged care.
**Your responsibilities will include**:
- Participating in, and sometimes leading or facilitating, workshops, brainstorms, and
co-design sessions with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and test
policy ideas.
- Transforming ideas into high-quality policy products including briefings, slide decks,
reports and ministerial/parliamentary documentation to facilitate consultation,
communication and advice.
- Collaborating within and across teams to draw on information and expertise and
promote teamwork.
- Contributing to Cabinet processes as required, including the drafting and costing of
Cabinet documents to support the Federal Budget process.
- Supervising, mentoring, and supporting APS level staff and ensure they can
contribute to the work of the team to the best of their ability, managing
performance issues as they arise.
