**THE OPPORTUNITY**

James Hardie is seeking to appoint a **Research Technician** to work alongside the Research and Product Development team developing innovative new products whilst also supporting the manufacturing operations in the Asia Pacific region. The role is responsible for the day-to-day running, management, and continuous improvement of the Laboratory facilities, to maintain a high standard of service and to support activities within JH Research & Product Development and Asia Pac manufacturing plants.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Analysis and interpretation of test results, compiling technical reports including critical analysis of results to drive improvement initiatives.
- Provide the mechanical and structural performance of products, systems and manufacturing processes by systematic testing, analysis of test results and provision of comprehensive test reports, in accordance with laboratory quality guidelines.
- Test materials used as ingredients in fibre reinforced cement or related products, for such qualities as chemical and phase composition, particle size, density, moisture etc.
- Test raw materials to finished products and a diverse range of formulations to verify conformity to specifications. Results-driven, self-disciplined, self-directing, and hold high standards in deliverables
- Regular ordering of all laboratory consumables such as chemicals and safety equipment
- Organize regular servicing of laboratory instruments and liaise with service contractors to ensure all equipment is maintained and serviced promptly as and when required
- Continuous improvement of the chemical laboratory facilities and development and management of budgets and plans for equipment upgrades.
- Report any incidents, hazards, near misses or “at-risk” behaviours in a timely fashion

**ABOUT YOU - WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?**
**Skills, Knowledge and Experience**
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with people at all levels
- Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Gantt charts, Internet)
- Familiarity with universal testing machines for uniaxial tension/compression/bonding testing
- Certificate 4 in Laboratory Techniques / Certificate 4 in Science / Diploma of Laboratory Technology or Advanced Diploma of Laboratory Operations
- Knowledge of basic statistics and data analysis, repeatability and reproducibility studies and design of experiments would be an advantage
- High attention to detail, good observational and recording skills
- Minimum over 2 years of relevant experience in a testing laboratory.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects while meeting deadlines and demanding quality execution
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative in providing new ideas to improve laboratory efficiencies.
