**Position Information**:
Shortland Public School, situated on Awabakal land, is a forward thinking school situated in the Newcastle area, close to the Newcastle University and wetlands of Shortland. Our school comprises of 255 students. This includes 220 students in mainstream classes and 35 students in support classes. 23% of students are from Aboriginal backgrounds and 8% of students from a language background other than English. Shortland Public School has a strong sense of belonging and community involvement with an active Parent and Citizens' Association and active member of Callaghan Education Pathways and Muloobinbah AECG, working collaboratively with our communities to achieve maximum outcomes for all our students.
Through the completion of a robust situational analysis, we have identified three areas of focus for Shortland Public School's Strategic Improvement Plan. The analysis has shown the need to continue a evidenced-based pedagogical model to build strong foundations to enhance engagement in the classroom to ensure that growth and attainment is maximised for every student. It also highlighted a focus on whole school data driven teaching practices, K-6, in the areas of assessment and programming developing quality systems in the collection of pre
- and post-data. This will guide programming and pedagogy delivery to enhance student learning outcomes for all individual students. The situational analysis also identified of a whole school wellbeing focus building upon the work undertaken throughout the previous planning cycle.
Our school programs support the diverse learning needs of our students, with individual needs catered for with continued monitoring of student performance. Shortland Public School is an inclusive school which nurtures the social success of each individual by maintaining a positive and caring learning environment.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary with the proven capacity to balance the dual roles of an exemplary classroom teacher and the complex responsibilities of an Assistant Principal.
Evidence of outstanding collaborative skills to work as part of a leadership team, using data and implementing evidence-based teaching practices in Literacy and/or Numeracy.
Highly visible and collaborative leader, who promotes a culture of belonging and high expectations to strengthen positive partnerships within the school community.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and lead whole school programs with a proven ability to enrich student outcomes whilst leading, mentoring, and inspiring others.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
