**Opportunity**

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our dedicated team and support the work of Defence SA. We are seeking a highly organised Finance Officer with strong accounting and finance skills and experience who is solutions focused, collaborative and enthusiastic.

This position deals with management and financial accounting and reporting for the agency, including the creation of monthly variance reports to business units, internal budgets, yearly financial statements and reconciling a number of grant programs. The role is also responsible for the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions of the agency. Operating in a small agency this role will provide the incumbent experience across a number of government reporting processes, an opportunity not always found in larger organisations.

**About You**

You have a solid basis in general accounting principles and an ability to analyse and interpret financial information. You will then be able to explain your analysis and findings to other staff with a non-financial background. You can undertake budget and management reporting, as well as assist stakeholders to undertake financial tasks. You can collaborate with others in the agency to understand issues, analyse financial results and communicate your findings to support decision making.

You have an understanding of the requirements for producing financial statements and the accounting standards that drive these statements.

**Role Purpose/Context**:
The Finance Officer is responsible for preparing, or contributing to, the production of a range of timely, relevant and reliable financial and management reports for the Chief Executive and Leadership Team and the monthly reconciliation of financial accounts.

The role provides audience appropriate advice on matters related to SA government accounting policies, Australian Accounting Standards and Defence SA processes and liaises with Shared Services and other government departments on financial matters affecting the Agency.

The Finance Officer is also responsible for the planning and delivery of all regular accounting tasks, including the planning, delivery and review of taxation related information for BAS and FBT returns.

The role manages, administers and maintains the locally based financial accounting system, ensuring results are consistent with the Shared Services Financial Accounting, financial reporting system, and regularly reviews and updates all financial procedures and staff training resources within Defence SA.
