The Urban Newtown is an 81 room industrial studio hotel located in the heart of Sydney's Inner West suburb of Newtown.
We are looking for a part-time Handyperson who enjoys completing a variety of tasks each day. This role requires you to maintain the building and ensure a pleasant and safe environment for all guests, visitors and colleagues.
**Our handyperson shift is 8am - 4pm. We can be flexible on the days you work however working on Friday is a must.**
**Hours per week range from 30 - 38 hours depending on our occupancy and project works.**
**Rate of pay is $33.00 per hour or $38.00 depending on trade experience, plus usual penalties.**
**Car allowance available to compensate trips to suppliers e.g. Bunnings**
Reporting to the Hotel Management, this role is responsible for:
- Completing general repairs and maintenance as well as preventative maintenance throughout the hotel.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained, used, and stored correctly.
- Carry out maintenance requirements and follow up as scheduled by the Property management System (PMS).
- Plan and complete preventative maintenance such in room painting.
- Stocked and well organized workshop

- Good organizational and multitasking skills
What's in the job:
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance tasks.
- Check guest rooms for any issues (e.g., broken fixtures, lights, or furniture) and ensure everything is in working order before guest arrival.
- Ensure the hotel’s public areas, corridors, and exterior are well-maintained (e.g., cleaning gutters, repairing door locks, patching walls).
- Carry out regular inspections and preventive maintenance on appliances, heating/cooling systems, plumbing, and electrical equipment to avoid larger problems.
- Monitor and maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and parts required for hotel repairs and upkeep.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards and hotel policies, keeping up with fire safety, emergency exits, and safety signage.
- Managing multiple tasks efficiently, demonstrating exceptional time management.
- Responding promptly to maintenance emergencies, ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests and staff.
- Communicating effectively with guests and team members, contributing to a positive work environment.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour
