**Position overview**

ANU has an international reputation for research and education relevant to the health and well-being of the population of Australia, as well as that of the developing world. This is achieved through discovery research, applied research in health service settings, research-led teaching in health and medical sciences, and the translation of research findings into practice and policy. The ANU College of Health and Medicine comprises the School of Medicine and Psychology, the John Curtin School of Medical Research and the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health. These schools work together to deliver world-class research and education across the spectrum of medicine and health-related fields, working in partnership with the health sector at local, national and international levels.

The National Centre for Indigenous Genomics (NCIG) is a leader in creating reference genomic resources that advance knowledge and healthcare utility of genomics for Indigenous Australians. Our current focus is to generate telomere-2-telomere reference genomes and population-scale variation catalogues in partnerships with multiple Indigenous Australian communities.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow, you will play a pivotal role in conducting discovery research, developing innovative algorithms and software solutions for genomic data analyses, and performing empirical evaluations and benchmarking experiments. Through your contributions, you will enhance the utility and impact of NCIG genomic resources for the benefit of Indigenous Australians.

The Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Fellow will report to and be mentored by Dr Patel at the John Curtin School of Medical Research. As a member of our NCIG team, you will work closely with eminent external agencies and collaborators both nationally and internationally to deliver outcomes for research, engagement and outreach from projects recently funded by the NHMRC. You will also have opportunities to supervise research students (PhD, Honours and undergraduate), submit funding proposals, and lead research publications to enable your growth. Your leadership in relevant research activities (seminars, conferences, committees), and exposure to cutting-edge Indigenous genomics research and the vibrant JCSMR research community will provide for fulfilling research experience.
