THE ROLE
Child Protection paralegal Officers perform a critical role in supporting the delivery of court-related services to Child Protection teams within the department. Reporting to the Principal Solicitor of the divisional child protection litigation team, the child protection paralegal role will be co located within the Dandenong child protection office. The role provides wide ranging legal administrative and support functions to the child protection program to assist child protection practitioners in the preparation of matters before the Family Division of the Children's Court of Victoria. This may include preparing and filing court documents, communication with court registries, other legal professionals including Victoria Legal Aid and liaising with potential witnesses.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

- Developing processes to build workforce capability relating to court processes and improving the knowledge and understanding of Child Protection staff about preparation for court and completion of court tasks.
- Undertake court file searches and attend to court filing as well as conducting basic legal research using online systems as required.
- Answer queries, provide timely advice and undertake general follow up action as required, including correctly redirecting incoming mail and queries.
