**About the role**
As a Pound Attendant at our Point Cook facility, you will assist in providing the Wyndham community with a service for animal retrieval, enquiry, pet registration and re-uniting of lost animals.
You will ensure impounded animals are treated and cared for in accordance with relevant legislation and Council’s policies and procedures as well as providing education, information and shared resources relating to nuisance and impounded animals and responsible pet ownership.
The animal team provides an afterhours emergency response service. You will be part of an afterhours and weekend roster to support the team in providing the service.
Please note that there are no work from home provisions for this role.
**What your day will look like**
- Impounding, releasing and registration of stray/wandering cats and dogs
- Providing husbandry for impounded animals which may include assessing, feeding, cleaning and exercising
- Providing customer service to the public for general pound enquiries
- Providing information and education on responsible pet ownership and legislative requirements of owning a cat or dog in Wyndham
- Data entry, general cashier and reception duties at the pound
**What you will bring**
- A relevant TAFE or equivalent certificate and/or related experience
- Experience in a field of employment relating to domestic animals and/or livestock
- Demonstrated understanding of animal behaviour and husbandry practices including domestic livestock
- Good communication, customer service and general administration skills
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Previous experience in a Local Government environment (desirable)
