**About Microbiology**
Austin Health Microbiology Department uses state-of-the-art automation to efficiently deliver high quality results.
**About the role**:
This position requires an appropriately applicant with laboratory skills and preferably relevant experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory. Duties may inlcude specimen processing, preparing media and reagents/stains, processing/staining microscopy smears, performing simple laboratory tests and quality control activities. The position also involves managing consumables, maintaining inventory documentation and preparing glassware and equipment for reuse. Experience with use of various automation (including Kiestra WCA, Bactec FX, Atellica urine analysis) is desirable.

Selection Criteria Essential: Basic laboratory skills
Essential: Good communication skills (verbal and written), and capable of working effectively, independently and within a laboratory team
Essential: Demonstrable time management with an ability to prioritise
Desirable: Knowledge of principles of laboratory Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Mycology & Infection Control. with an understanding of simple laboratory tests and quality control activities
Desirable: Experience working in a microbiology laboratory including media preparation
Desirable: Experience with laboratory automation (Kiestra WCA, Bactec FX, Atellica Urine analysis)
Desirable: Competent in use of computer software (Auslab Laboratory Information System, MS Office 365
