Research Assistant

Overview:
- Full-time, Fixed Term position for one year- Salary Academic Level A6-A8 + 17% Superannuation- Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University
- About You
The Research Assistant will undertake research activities in the area of creation and characterisation of fluorescent colour centres, funded by the Australian Research Council. You will be expected to undertake high-level research in experimental physics aligned with specified milestones associated with the above ARC project, which aims to develop near-infrared quantum emitters in diamond as a platform technology that may ultimately enable long-distance quantum networks, integrated photonics, and deep tissue biosensors based on diamond.
It is expected that you will work with an increasing degree of autonomy as skills and experience develop. The Research Assistant will also be required to supervise research students at undergraduate, Masters and PhD levels.

To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Evidence of research output including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports in the field.- Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues, project team leaders, and industry partners.- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.- Experience in one or more of the following areas: fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy, optical properties of wide band gap semiconductors, nanophotonics, quantum optics, optical characterisation of colour centres- Strong analytical and programming skills, and ability to carry out both theoretical and experimental work.
