**Position Information**:
Sydney Distance Education High School has an enrolment of around 1460 students, including 80 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, with a fulltime equivalent of 154 teachers and 23.3 administrative and support staff. Committed to excellence and equity in distance education, we are the largest school provider of flexible blended learning programs in NSW, serving students from areas north of Wollongong, south of Newcastle, and west to the Blue Mountains. Close to the central business district of Sydney, we work on the land of the Traditional Custodians, the Gadigal People of Eora Nation. Strategic Improvement Plan priorities include _Student Growth and Attainment_, _Teaching Excellence_ and _Inclusive, Supported and Positive School Community. _
Students who meet specific enrolment requirements attend our school because they are not able to attend another school on a fulltime basis. Our students include those with additional learning and support needs, and we also teach students studying single courses which they are not able to access at their home schools. Students may learn in many ways, using written materials and online technologies.
Engagement with creative, challenging and blended learning opportunities is supplemented by inclusive student wellbeing programs and the school's partnerships with communities, families and other schools. Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Demonstrated capacity to lead, design and deliver high quality, inclusive, differentiated, and future focused teaching programs that enrich learning opportunities for a diverse student population, including the development of Life Skills curriculum programs across Stages 4, 5 and 6 and key KLAs.
An authentic leader with exceptional communication, interpersonal and planning skills to foster a culture of high expectations and build collaborative and trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers to maximise the learning of all students.
Organisational and strategic skills to lead a dynamic Learning and Support Team and Learning and Support faculty and to work between teams to support the learning and wellbeing of students.
Capacity and expertise to work with a range of stakeholders to provide coordinated support and lead programs that support students with a disability including learning adjustments, NCCD, PLSPs and Disability Provisions.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
