Under an Agreement between the Australian and United States Governments, CSIRO has management responsibility for the activities of NASA in Australia. The principal activity is the operation of the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) located at Tidbinbilla, some 40 km from Canberra.

**The opportunity**

Are you passionate about space, science, and inspiring the next generation? CDSCC is seeking a dynamic Education and Outreach Officer to lead engaging face-to-face and written programs that showcase our role in NASA’s Deep Space Network at our Tidbinbilla site.

In this multifaceted role, you’ll:

- Deliver educational experiences to students and the public, highlighting CDSCC’s contribution to space exploration.
- Manage bookings, databases, and financial records to support school and adult group programs.
- Develop and implement policies and systems that align with organisational and regulatory goals.
- Promote STEM pathways by sharing science-based insights and inspiring future innovators.
- Support daily operations of the public visitor centre and retail space, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience

**Your high-level duties will include**:

- Delivering face-to-face, guided education programs for students from Yr3-12, and higher education students and adults.
- Interact with public visitors, providing support, information, and first aid assistance when needed
- Manage administrative tasks, including calendars, budgets, correspondence, and stakeholder engagement
- Oversee daily operations of the visitor centre, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness of exhibits and gift shop
- Assist in planning and executing internal/external events and media-related activities
- Collaborate with facility staff to improve systems, resolve issues, and maintain clear client communication

**Salary**:AU$69,710k - AU$92,738k per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus 15.4% superannuation plus Tracking Station Allowance $133.81 p/week (pro rata for P/T)

**Tenure**:Part-time (minimum 0.9 FTE)

**_ Essential_**
- Relevant tertiary or equivalent relevant work experience in science communication, education and/or public outreach.
- Previous demonstrated experience with education programs in areas of astronomy and space science; and public speaking
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools, database entry and database management
- A current driver’s licence.

**_ Desirable_**
- Content creation for social media channels and platforms
- Website development and graphic design experience
- Qualifications or demonstrated relevant experience in astronomy, astrophysics or other areas of space science
