**Objectives of position**
Provide direct support to clients of Barunga Community Care in their own home or as stipulated in their support plan and may provide respite to the primary caregiver.
**Summary of position**
Provide support and care described in clients support plan such as personal care, housekeeping support, shopping, respite, social support.

**Key responsibilities**
**Responsibilities of your role**
Follow clients support plan at all times.
Provide active companionship and emotional support with clients in their own home.
Complete the housekeeping as agreed in the clients’ homes.
Administer medications only as specified in the care plan.
Promote and foster the independence of the client.
Provide transport to different appointments, such as doctor, shopping, so on.
Complete paperwork or upload changes to the system.
Advise the Client Liaison Officer if support other than that described in the support plan appears necessary.
Report to the Client Liaison Officer any changes observed in the client, the homes safety or other relevant aspects of the home environment.
**Work, health and safety**
Comply with work, health and safety policies and procedures related to the work being undertaken, in accordance with the current Work, Health and Safety Act, to ensure own safety and that of others.
To gain specific knowledge of the whistle-blower policy.
Reporting of any possible hazards, ‘near misses’ and participating in incident/accident investigations as necessary.
Participate in all mandatory training programs such as Emergency Response, Manual Handling education and Barunga Village Support Worker training as directed.

Undertake further education as appropriate and participate in in-service education as provided by Barunga Village.
Complete all online learning modules as directed.
Takes part in performance appraisals on an annual basis.
Assist in the promotion of the purpose, values and priorities of Barunga Village.
Any other duties commensurate with the employee’s skills and experience as directed by the Community Coordinator.
A fair level of computer literacy.
**Person specifications**
**Essential qualifications and experience**
Enrolled and started a Certificate lll in Individual Support (Aging, Disability, Home and Community) within the 6 months after the start date.
Have and keep a current First Aid certification.
**Desirable qualifications and experience**
Experience in working with older people or those with disability is desirable.
**Core skills and competencies**
Interest in helping other people, regardless of their condition. Being empathetic.
Ability to make good, positive relationships and communicate warmly with people and their families.
Self-motivated and emotionally resilient.
Ability to act autonomously and function effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
