**About the Team**
The P&GN team has several core functions including:
- Safety & Technical Regulation of Gas Networks
- Safety & Technical Regulation of Pipelines
- Administering the licensing function under the Pipelines Act
- Administering the Authority to Survey (ATS) function under the Pipelines Act
- Administering existing Licensed Pipeline licences under the Pipelines Act
- Administer the Pipeline Search function under the Pipelines Act
The team works directly with energy network operators, corrosion protection system operators, Standards Australia, Future Fuels CRC, the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association and other NSW and jurisdictional regulators. Its focus is to influence energy infrastructure operators to manage their assets in a manner prioritising public safety, reliability of supply and energy security.
**About the Role**
The Pipelines and Gas Networks team is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Inspector to join their team to play a key role in supporting the safety, technical regulation and licensing functions for pipelines and gas networks in NSW. This is a dynamic role where you will be part of supporting and providing input into the strategic planning process and building regulatory frameworks that will drive operational excellence.
As an experienced and key technical expert, you will work and collaborate with a team of specialists to ensure the safety, integrity and reliability of critical infrastructure meets NSW Government's responsibilities under the _Pipelines Act 1967 and Gas Supply Act 1996_. You will take on a leadership role in both carrying out and supporting Inspectors to perform day-to-day licensing, compliance, and enforcement activities, as well as providing guidance, advice and recommendations to the Senior Manager and wider DCCEEW Executive team. Engagement with industry will ensure that the necessary safety, technical and risk input is provided as part of policy development discussions in order that industry needs are considered in future fuels (hydrogen and biomethane), energy security and broader energy strategies.
**About You**
You are an experienced and competent technical professional with strong expertise and leadership qualities in the safety, risk and/or technical management areas. You have tertiary qualifications across any of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Chemical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Process Engineering or have a technical background with commensurate experience in the utilities industry. Ideally you will have a background from the Energy sector - within the pipeline or gas industries.
You are pro-active and self-motivated and are an effective and confident communicator with the ability of engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels.

**Key Knowledge and Experience**
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Strong knowledge of gas network and pipeline construction, operation, maintenance and safety including emergency management, gas measurement, damage mechanisms, external interference management and corrosion protection.
- Knowledge of and experience in relevant Standards especially AS 2885, AS 4645, AS 4564, AS 2832.1, industry codes, legislative and regulatory frameworks.
