Legal Advisor

We are working with a local government organisation based 10 minutes east of Perth CBD. They are looking for an experienced Project officer to start ASAP until mid-February.

**Start date: ASAP**
**Location: Belmont**
**Duration: 3 months (approx.)**
**Pay rate: $60 per hour**

**The Role**
- Provide legal advice on complex areas of law relevant to local government.
- Coordinate drafting and review of Local Laws and manage associated Parliamentary processes.
- Represent the local government in legal disputes as required.
- Manage relationships with external legal providers.
- Provide advice and assistance with the local government's legislative and contractual compliance.
- Draft and review Council Policies and Procedures as required.
- Draft and review contracts and tender documentation as required.
- Draft and review leases, licences and other agreements.
- Conduct internal reviews of decisions made under freedom of information legislation.

**The Person**
- Possession of a qualification in law and a current Practising Certificate from the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia.
- MUST have a National Police Clearance dated within the last (12) twelve months or be willing to obtain one
- Recent experience in the provision of legal advice in the areas of contract, planning and environmental law.
- Demonstrated recent experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and leases.
- Proven ability to handle political, confidential, and sensitive matters appropriately.
- Previous experience in legislation applicable to residential tenancies, commercial tenancies and retirement villages.
- Previous experience in undertaking continuous improvement activities, including exposure to the Australian Business Excellence Framework, Quality Assurance, ISO Standards, process improvement and auditing activities.
