We are seeking to appoint 2 Associates.
One Associate to support Judge Cosgrave and a second Associate to support Judge Macnamara of the Commercial Division of the County Court.
The County Court of Victoria has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in Victoria. The Court hears over 11,000 criminal and civil cases each year. Since 1 January 2007, the County Court has had an unlimited monetary jurisdiction in civil matters. The County Court has concurrent jurisdiction with the Supreme Court in almost all commercial litigation.
Following the removal of the monetary limit on the Court's jurisdiction and the appointment of additional Judges with commercial expertise, the commercial work of the court has grown in both size and complexity. As the Associate you will provide operational, administrative and technical legal support to the Judge both in chambers and in court. The role involves case file management, a strong emphasis on communication at all levels, and legal research and writing.
Relevant qualifications and an Australian driver's licence is essential.
