**THE ROLE**
The Deadly Lions Program is delivered in partnership with MAYSAR (Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sports and Recreation), and as the Deadly Lions (Tiddas) Coordinator you will provide individualized support to female identifying First Nations young people who have been in contact with police or the youth justice system, or for those who are at risk of entering the youth justice system. With an emphasis on goal setting, pro-social role modelling and guidance, community engagement, family work and connection to culture, outcomes for young people will include: positive and sustainable connections to self and communities of choice, increased self-agency and decreased isolation.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Providing individualized support (intensive case management and coordination, brief intervention, assertive outreach)
- Community engagement and capacity building
- Stakeholder and partnership engagement, particularly to improve access pathways
- Community-based outreach and co-location
You will be expected to work across multiple locations, including but not limited to Hoppers Crossing, Carlton and Fitzroy. There may be some after hours and weekend work required.
**ABOUT YOU**
You're passionate about working with and supporting young people, you see the unique potential and perspective that they bring and you deeply understand the relationship between school, community and family in bringing out their full potential and realizing opportunities. Your experience and capabilities include:
- Extensive experience in working with community, and demonstrable skills in engaging and supporting young First Nations women
- Previous experience providing individualized support (intensive case management) in a community service environment, preferably working with at risk and vulnerable young people
- An understanding of care services and experience dealing with the issues confronting vulnerable young First Nations peoples (including, family violence, substance abuse, child abuse and child safety, mental health and relationships) and their families
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in addition to a high level of interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills in order to build rapport and trust with various stakeholders
**Qualifications**
Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in education, youth work, social work, social sciences or similar is required.
Training in relevant child protection legislation.
A current working with children check and driver's license (and willingness to undergo a Whitelion Police Check).
