The Driver Assistant assists the Driver in providing efficient, safe, reliable, and courteous collection and delivery of all goods
Key responsibilities
- Transportation: Assist the Driver in providing a professional, safe and reliable collection/delivery and storage of goods.
- Vehicle care: Assist the Driver in ensuring the vehicle is safe and fully operational by regularly checking tyres, fuel levels and monitoring oil and water levels. Diligently ensure vehicle is checked before each shift and rectify any issues before collecting donations, reporting issues and repairs to site/program/service manager.
- Administration: Assist with filling in the vehicle log book; ensure an identification badge and uniform is worn at all times.
- Communications: Assist the driver by contacting customers and donors, providing updates on collection/delivery times; assist with communicating to site/program/service manager regarding any concerns that may arise or if regular service is due.
Qualifications and skills (desired/required)
- Good communication skills desired
- Customer service experience highly regarded

Background check requirements
Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Where an applicant has disclosable history, the selection process includes a fair assessment and a risk management approach. Collection of personal information is handled per our privacy and confidentiality policies. Below is what is required for this role:
- As this role could come into contact with minors, it requires a Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check
- As this role involves dealing with confidential information and entering sites, it requires a Police Check
Development opportunities with this role
This role will give volunteers an opportunity to develop skills and build experience in goods transportation, logistics, customer service and teamwork.
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. _Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a National Police Check._
