Due to continued business growth, there is an opportunity for a **Water Quality Specialist **to join the Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions business unit at Unitywater on a 6+ month contract. You will ideally be** **based out of the businesses Southern Service Centre in Morayfield, QLD. Unitywater embraces flexible working, and as such, you will have the support to execute this role with a mixture of in-office, site-based and work from home days.
**The Opportunity**
As the Water Quality Specialist, you will provide specialist expertise and leadership in water quality matters to achieve the implementation of projects relating to the management of drinking water and recycled water quality and the provision of safe water products to Unitywaters customers.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills in water quality management and work with experienced and innovative scientists and water professionals. Here, you will work with smart integrated data platforms (e.g. GIS, SCADA, Business Intelligence) and an online water quality monitoring network. In the role, you will get to enjoy the challenge of considering complex issues and identifying practical solutions in a large urban water utility.
**Role Responsibilities**
- Provide specialist knowledge and leadership in the fields of chemistry, microbiology, public health, and quality management systems
- Identify and manage improvements in the Drinking Water Management System which includes the approved Drinking Water Quality Management Plan and ISO 22000 certification
- Influence the development, implementation, and on-going improvements of recycled water management to meet legislative requirements
- Develop and improve tools to trend, analyse, review and report water quality data across Unitywaters water supply and recycled water networks to inform decision making
- Identify emerging water quality trends and provide effective communication to relevant stakeholders
- Provide professional scientific assessment and interpretation of water quality data for regulatory and business reporting purposes in a timely and accurate manner
- Build active relationships with Unitywater stakeholders to develop practical big picture solutions to water quality issues
- Actively maintain abreast of industry best practice technology and research related to water quality management and provide expert advice to regulators, Unitywater staff, senior management, and section members
- Provide support to the Water Quality Manager in mentoring and developing water quality technical skills within the team
- Participate in Unitywater safety audits and inspections to demonstrate visible safety leadership and participation.
**Position Requirements**
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in science or engineering with emphasis on the disciplines of chemistry, microbiology, or biochemistry.
- Internal Auditor training is preferred, or willingness to undertake.
- Significant experience with a large urban water utility, or relevant experience in the water industry or industrial water treatment, where you have been responsible for the management of water quality outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to recognise, investigate and solve problems of a complex scientific nature without supervision.
- Demonstrated project management and team leadership skills with the ability to develop, coordinate and manage projects, people, and resources effectively to achieve work goals to meet deadlines and commitments.
- Demonstrated experience in managing legislative and statutory compliance issues and the ability to actively recognise, define and resolve drinking water quality or recycled water quality problems
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, consultative and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to negotiate successful outcomes in complex situations with regulators/stakeholders and/or senior management.
- Demonstrated experience in using HACCP principles for product quality assurance would be highly regarded
