Specialist Support Worker for a Bright, Non-Speaking Autistic Child (Approx. 20 Hours/Week)

We are a loving family seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to support our delightful 6-year-old daughter, who is autistic and non-speaking. She is a gentle, curious, and affectionate child who thrives with the right guidance, consistency, and care.

We are looking for someone who can provide meaningful support across home, childcare, and school environments — helping her grow, connect, and feel confident in her daily experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with toilet training using a patient, respectful, and consistent approach
- Support play-based learning and therapy, including sensory and communication activities
- Attend childcare and school with her to provide 1:1 support and help her navigate routines and social environments
- Collaborate with her family, educators, and therapists to maintain a consistent, strengths-based approach
- Communicate progress and needs clearly with family and professionals
- Create an environment of emotional safety, understanding, and joy

Essential Criteria:

- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Education, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Speech Pathology, Special Education, or similar)
- Experience working with autistic children, particularly non-speaking or high-support-needs individuals
- Confidence supporting toilet training and everyday skill development
- Solid understanding of autism-informed strategies and respectful communication
- A caring, playful, and dependable nature

Availability:

- Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility across school, childcare, and home settings
- Must be available to attend some daytime hours across weekdays

Desirable:

- Experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)
- Understanding of play therapy principles
- Current First Aid and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)

If you are passionate about inclusive, respectful support and want to make a meaningful difference in a child’s development, we would love to hear from you.

Please send your CV and a short cover letter outlining your experience
