**Quick overview of the role**
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will work in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, delivering a safe and committed effort to service our workplace needs. This is a role that requires forward thinking and sound initiative to achieve results safely within a team environment. This position may involve travel from time to time, to assist our branch network.
**What will you be doing?**
- Read plans, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
- Cut, shape and smooth timber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
- Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
- Lay out flooring, roofing and/or plasterboard ensuring they are levelled and compatible
- Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated
- Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
- Build scaffolding and other construction structures
- Minor plumbing repairs including leaking pipes, replacing inlet valves and changing taps/washers etc.
- Cut and jackhammer small and large concrete trenches
- Carry out small renovations to offices, toilet blocks and store rooms.
- Install and remove wall hangings including pictures, blinds and whiteboards
- Proven previous experience as a carpenter/handyman
- Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings
- Ability to always follow safety guidelines
- Good understanding of basic math
- Ability to adapt and problem solve
- Strong team values, able to work with various other trades and management to deliver customer satisfaction
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Current driver’s license
- Forklift license (desirable)
