Position Overview
The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating and optimising manufacturing and logistics processes within a reinforcement (reo) pre-fabrication facility. This role involves scheduling production, managing material flow, planning transport and deliveries, and improving efficiency while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and implement production schedules to meet project deadlines and optimise workflow. - Coordinate with site manager and clients to prioritise jobs based on urgency and capacity. - Adjust schedules in response to changing priorities, material availability, or unexpected delays. - Monitor work-in-progress to ensure production targets are met and identify potential bottlenecks.
Material & Inventory Management
- Work with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure raw materials (reo bar, mesh, and accessories) are available for production. - Track inventory levels and forecast material requirements to prevent shortages or excess stock. - Minimise waste and optimise material usage in fabrication.
Logistics & Transport Planning
- Plan and schedule the transportation of fabricated reinforcement to job sites, ensuring timely and cost-effective deliveries. - Coordinate with transport providers and internal logistics teams to optimise delivery routes and load efficiency. - Ensure compliance with weight limits, load restraints, and transport regulations. - Communicate with site teams to confirm delivery schedules and resolve any issues related to transport delays or access restrictions. - Maintain records of deliveries, transport costs, and fleet utilisation to improve logistics efficiency.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with workshop supervisors, welders, and machine operators to ensure smooth production flow. - Collaborate with transport/logistics teams to schedule deliveries efficiently.
- Cage Storage Yard Planning
- Develop and implement efficient storage plans to maximise available yard space for prefabricated reinforcement cages.
- Coordinate with production and logistics teams to optimise cage stacking and organisation for easy access and dispatch.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations regarding stacking heights, weight distribution, and secured storage.
- Implement a tracking system for stored cages to improve retrieval efficiency and reduce handling times. - Work with site teams to plan deliveries in a way that minimises double handling and congestion in the yard.
- Regularly review yard storage capacity and identify opportunities for layout improvements to increase efficiency.
Essential Skills Required:
- Experience with scheduling tools (e.g, Excel or similar software, or production planning systems).
