The Rail Timetabling Team is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for:
Business As Usual (BAU) activities in ensuring that the PTV Journey Planner, PTV App and website is correctly populated on a weekly basis with Metro Train, V/Line Rail and Coach and Yarra Tram timetabling data.

Ensuring that Network Service Change (NSC) changes involving timetabling data are performed in accordance with the NSC Project Schedule. Extraction and delivery of the monthly myki topology data. Monitoring of the digital data mailbox to provide solutions to internal and external queries. Testing and verifying the Timetable System Uplift (TTSU) Metro, V/Line and Yarra Tram data in the DIVA system.

**About the Role**

**This is a Fixed Term, full-time position until **29 August 2025.**

Strategy and Precincts is responsible for providing policy direction, planning and leading innovation for integrated simple, safe, connected journeys. Data and Digital is a division of Strategy and Precincts and is responsible for the delivery of better outcomes for users of the transport system through developing and coordinating customer and transport system insights, strategy and innovation.

This role is responsible for the ensuring timetable data (including route and stop information) provided by Operators is updated in DTP’s databases. This requires liaison with DTP teams, external parties that support DTP’s systems and operators. The significant complexity of both Operator data and DTP systems is managed by this role ensuring high quality data is provided in tight timeframes.

**Position Outcomes**

This role ensures accurate, high-quality data for DTP products like timetables and journey planners through consistent liaison with relevant teams and efficient management of the data import/export process. It also involves troubleshooting data issues, offering expert guidance, and continuously improving processes to enhance system capacity and effectiveness.

**_ Key Selection Criteria -_**
- Previous use of complex databases, manipulate electronic data and understand the output of different data formats.
- Ability to operate database interfaces for customized hardware.
- Knowledge of downstream use of data and ability to liaise with users and external parties to ensure correct usage and understanding.
- Able to problem solve complex data issues within tight timeframes.
- Ability to collaborate with team members, operators and external system support to ensure timeframes are met.
- Understanding of public transport operations and how timetable, geospatial and scheduling data reflect operations would be desirable.

**Qualifications and Experience**

**Desirable**
- A relevant tertiary qualification in a related field and/or relevant industry experience.
