Community Meals Team Members play a key role in supporting the Ryde community as they take part in meal preparation and distribution within a safe, hygienic and healthy environment. The role assists with preparing and serving food under the guidance and support of the Community Meals Team Leader. An ideal role for those who enjoy preparing meals, connecting with others and working as a team alongside community members.
- Key responsibilities
- Meal preparation and service: With guidance and instruction from the Community Meals Team Leader, coordinate community members ensuring they have all the ingredients and utensils needed for the meal preparation activity.
- Set up and clean up: With a keen eye for neatness and hygiene, Team Members oversee and assist community members with initial set up, clearing of tables, pack up, wash up and waste disposal.
- Caring for people: Community Meals Team Members are a positive and encouraging role model for disadvantaged members of the Ryde Community
- Qualifications and skills (desired/required)
- Interest in working with community members who are seeking connection and social support
- Experience in food preparation, handling and service (note: as food is donated rather than sold, formal food handling training is not required by law but is still desirable)
Development opportunities with this role:
This role will give volunteers an opportunity to develop skills and build experience in food handling, preparation and service, as well working alongside community members who may be experiencing social or economic vulnerabilities. Additionally, there will be access to a range of training opportunities and insight to the work of a large not-for-profit religious organisation with expressions in many different areas of society.
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. _Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a National Police Check._
