Rail Operator Maintainer

With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.

As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site. There are 4 train services per day on a continuous basis to support the mining operation.

We are seeking a **Rail Operator / Maintainer **to** **coordinate operations in the train load out** **and assist with track maintenance activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Karara train services.

The role is predominately Operations (Logistics) focused with some periods assisting with track maintenance.

During operational periods the role involves monitoring and controlling of train movements in and out of the train loadout, continuous interaction with the train loading contractor around stockpile management, coordinating stockpile blending requirements, product sampling and daily reporting of product movements (Intermediate computing skills essential)

During maintenance periods the role involves assisting in activities relevant to the maintenance of the railway

This position operates on a continuous shift roster and requires the incumbent to successfully complete a Cat 1 Rail Medical including drug and alcohol testing.

The position operates on **8 days** on and 6 days off / 7 nights on and 7 days off roster**:

- **DIDO **from Geraldton (Company bus available) or **FIFO **from Perth. Self drive in / out from other Midwest regional locations is also possible

- Perform operations tasks for management of the train loading area out including controlling train movements, monitoring train loading activities and conduct other activities essential to the efficient supply of trains to the port.
- Compilation of daily production data relating to rail operations, train loading, and product stockpiling
- Ability to supervise contractors in the Train Loadout (train loading & stockpiling operations)
- Cooperate and work effectively with other departments to ensure company plans and targets are achieved.
- Assist with rail infrastructure inspections and maintenance to company standards, ensuring a safe and reliable rail system is maintained.
- Engage in continuous improvement to constantly seek better, safer and more efficient ways of undertaking activities and/or tasks.
- Undertake other tasks as reasonably assigned by Line Manager in accordance with skill set and competency.

**Essential Requirements**:

- Manual Class 'C' 'Driver’s License (WA)
- Able to undertake shift work
- Problem solving ability
- Able to work unsupervised
- Ability to coordinate multiple aspects of the supply chain
- Logistics experience

**Desirable but not essential**:

- ARC Infrastructure Track Accreditation (PO, POLO, POTV)
- Track maintenance or rail operations experience
- Mine site experience
- HR Licence
- Integrated tool carrier experience
