About the role
The chaplain is a trained specialist and has expertise in recognising and focusing on the spiritual and pastoral needs of others. As a spiritual practitioner they work in partnership with other professional staff to provide holistic support to both clients and staff.
The role provides Chaplaincy support during the recovery phase of the bushfires that affected so many Australians. Our experience of long-term recovery after disasters strongly shows the need for pastoral care, face to face contact where affected people can share where they are in their recovery.
The continuation of the long-term recovery is about people rebuilding their lives and their community, not only through our in-place service delivery (corps, Doorways, social services etc.) but with face to face connection that gives the opportunity to have conversations and pastoral care.
You will successfully
- Provides spiritual and pastoral care, encouraging people to explore their spirituality and move forward in their personal faith journey. This includes one-on-one pastoral or spiritual conversations and groupwork.
- Collaborates with the local corps and mission expression personnel to create faith pathways. This will include opportunities to connect to a local corps or other faith communities
- People’s needs and risks are responded to as part of service delivery
- Participates in staff and client case meetings where applicable
- Chaplains assist staff and management in understanding The Salvation Army theology, mission, and culture, ensuring that a sacred space is provided for the holistic, spiritual, and religious needs of those the chaplain cares for
- Where applicable, as a professional spiritual practitioner and member of senior staff team, the chaplain attends and contributes to all management meetings and actively engages in recruitment and induction processes of staff
- SAMIS reports completed as required
- Records including online systems are maintained and kept up to date
This is a full time, Fixed term position, based in Batemans Bay. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Hay Level 12.
You will have
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of The Salvation Army and previous or current chaplaincy experience or relevant experience in a similar position.
- Regular attendance at a Christian place of worship.
- Diploma of Chaplaincy (mandatory)
- Training in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (mandatory)
- Relevant qualifications in theological studies (preferred)
- Positive Lifestyle Program (PLP) Facilitator training
- Meets the yearly credentialling requirements of the Territorial Chaplaincy Support Unit (TCSU) to be registered as a Salvation Army Chaplain
- Regular professional pastoral supervision
- Area Leadership Teams
- Monthly spiritual retreat day
- A national police record check
- Working With Children Check
- Valid and current Drivers Licence (if required for tool of trade car or pool car access)
- Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
