**Role**:

- Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
- Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
- Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
- Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
- Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

**Responsibilities**:

- The Sub-School Leader is part of a dynamic team of people with responsibilities across a range of areas of the College¿s ongoing development. Primarily, the Sub-School Leader will have leadership responsibilities in the enhancement of a sub-school culture aligned with Ararat College¿s mission and values.
- The Sub-School Leader will work closely with sub-school coordinators, the principal team, staff, students, parents and the local and wider Communities. The role will be proactive in the development and implementation of innovative strategies to ensure improved learning outcomes for all students and reactive to identified needs of students, staff and the school community. The focus of the role is the provision of outstanding leadership in student learning within the school. This will be achieved by ensuring that assistance beyond the classroom is available to all students and where difficulties arise, a coordinated approach to a resolution is employed.
- As a Leading Teacher
- Sub School Leader your leadership focus will include but is not limited to the following:

- effective monitoring and reporting the progress of specific year levels, groups and individual students
- support, coach and provide or identify relevant professional learning for sub-school coordinators
- provide support for classroom teachers in understanding and implementing school approaches for engagement and classroom management
- developing proactive strategies to support student attendance
- maintaining clear and open communication with parents, support personnel and where appropriate external agencies
- providing key support in student welfare
- promoting student involvement in co-curricular activities
- acknowledging and promoting student achievement both within and outside of school
- enhancing the involvement of parents in their children¿s education
- attracting the involvement of both the local and wider communities in the school.
