**About the Opportunity**

We have permanent Mechanical Fitter opportunities available in Osborne, SA.**Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leads these positions provide mechanical fitting, machining and maintenance skills, knowledge and craftsmanship to the Collins Class Submarine program in accordance with operational requirements.

These positions involve complex problem solving and challenges that include the ability to accurately interpret complex work scopes and implement the task as outlined in the work pack and complete the work pack in accordance with corporate process. Conducting work on a CCSM has several challenges, confined space, incompatible operations and difficult working positions all of which need careful attention to detail when conducting tasks.

**Responsibilities**

This position consists of the following major work components:

- Installation, refurbishment, planned maintenance, set to work and defect rectification of the Collins Class Submarines and the associated submarine systems.
- Management and completion of work packs under the guidance of trade and boat team leaders.
- Delivery of completed work scopes to the appropriate engineering standards and safe work practices.
- Conducting work on a CCSM, in restricted areas and confined spaces, considering incompatible operations and difficult working positions all of which need careful attention to detail when conducting tasks.
- Assist the Trade Team Leads to take control of the implementation and close out deliverable work packages, review them for consistency and specific attributes.

**About you**
- A trade certificate 3 in fitting/turning, machining along with a strong commitment to safety.
- Diagnostic/Fault finding and problem solving skills.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Commitment to work within WHS&E regulations.
- Good computer literacy.
- Sound communication skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Proven ability to be flexible and an eagerness to learn and develop new skills.
- Experience within a heavy engineering/shipbuilding/ship repair industry.
- Demonstrated experience in accurately interpret complex work scopes and implement the task as outlined in work packs.
- Experience with working in restricted areas and confined spaces.
- Demonstrated expertise in the provision of fitting, machining and maintenance skills, knowledge and craftsmanship.

**Eligibility**

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.
