The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is seeking casual Assistant Installation Technicians to provide high level support to the NGV Exhibition and Collection team through the installation and handling of artworks for exhibitions, collection displays.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Under the supervision of Installation Technicians, you will be responsible for installing, de-installing and lighting exhibitions, collection displays and other projects at the NGV sites in accordance with accepted international museum and conservation best practice standards. You will also collect and install artworks at various public sector locations, private residences and offices and pack artworks for transport and long-term storage. Other key responsibilities include:

- Assisting with the installation of a range of display support material for exhibitions, collection displays, programs and events
- Inspecting all objects handled and reporting any damages or deterioration to Manager, Exhibition and Collection Operations, Conservation and Registration
- Ensuring that the Collection management procedures are accurately maintained and meet audit requirements by ensuring that all location tracking documentation is completed.
- Adhering to OH&S principles for manual handling, operation of fork-lift, scissor lifts and other equipment as required
- Ensuring equipment is maintained in a serviceable order and conducting monthly inventories of tool trolleys. Maintaining general housekeeping of the collection and holding stores and Installation workshop

To be successful in this position, you will have previous experience in creative fabrication, technical trades or art handling coupled with the ability to acquire new knowledge, skills, and techniques, as required. You will have familiarity with and an understanding of the relevant standards for electricity and lighting.
Possession of class “LF” Work Cover forklift licence, a scissor lift operating ticket, an endorsed truck license and a current Australian drivers licence would be an advantage. Applicants with experience in museum, theatre, or exhibition lighting techniques; mount making, silver solder and/or welding experience; or graphic or signage installation experience will be well regarded.
