Visual Arts Technician and Curator

Firbank Grammar School is seeking a dedicated Visuals Arts Technician and Curator to join our Senior School Visual Arts Department on a Permanant part-time basis.

This is an** ongoing, part-time, term time only role **(FTE 0.33), commencing in Term 4 2024 (**October 7th**). This position is** 2 days per week: Thursdays and Fridays 8am - 4pm. **Unfortunately, these days of work aren't flexible, as this role is part of a job-share arrangement with another Art Tech.

**Overview**:
The Visual Arts Technician and Curator will provide exemplary support to the Visual Arts Department in areas of technical support within and out of the classroom, curation of student works and exhibitions, maintenance of visual arts supplies and classrooms, and coordination of ordering of materials.

The art technician’s technical and creative support to staff will ensure that effective and creative lessons can be delivered. With the support of staff, they will be able to coordinate the curation of student works across the school and review these on a regular basis, especially during art exhibitions events. This position occasionally requires some non-term time work for certain events (approx. 3 days per year). The maintenance of the classrooms and well organised state of the classrooms will need to be a strong focus, including appropriate labelling, storage and restocking of all art materials on a regular basis.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Preparation and maintenance of art materials and equipment for general art areas, including appropriate labelling and ensuring materials are stored in the correct areas, regular cleanup of materials and student works areas, liaising with teachers for the setup of materials for their classes.
- Maintenance and assistance with visual art technology equipment, including printers, kilns, cameras, lights, printmaking, têxtile facilities.
- Preparation of college art exhibitions (mounting, framing and installation in a professional and aesthetically pleasing manner).
- Administration and classroom support for the faculty, including ordering and distribution of materials, assistance with safety and compliance within the classroom.

**Experience and Qualifications**:

- Qualification in Fine Art, such as a Fine Arts degree (desirable).
- Experience in a similar Art Technician role or as a practising artist.
- Strong passion and knowledge for ceramics and têxtiles.
- Proficiency with equipment and materials pertaining to sculpture, ceramics and têxtiles, is highly regarded.
- Generalist knowledge of other art forms such as printmaking, photography, visual communications, mixed media, painting and drawing is also preferred.
- Strong work ethic with a proven ability to connect with students and staff.
- Employee Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid and CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain).
