The Opportunity
As the Histology Manager at IDEXX, you will be the overarching leader of Histology in Australia working within the biggest veterinary laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere, in our brand-new custom designed laboratory in Eight Mile Plains. You will be and be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. You will lead and motivate the histology team to perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets across the country. **In this role**:
You will be line manager to a team of direct reports, taking responsibility for their performance, engagement, and development
Your day-to-day will include supervising and organising the laboratory, staff, and workflow
You will love solving problems, enjoy troubleshooting, and working towards defined targets while getting the best out of a team.
You will be preparing samples for anatomical pathology interpretation from specimen dissection, through microtomy to staining and QC
You will contribute to process improvements, Lean initiatives, and maintaining ISO accreditation for the lab
You will communicate with other related departments to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed
Have previous supervisory/leadership experience, and be able to mentor a team
A tertiary degree in Biomedical science or equivalent
A working laboratory background, preferably in a histopathology laboratory.
Engaged, proactive and enthusiastic - be an all-round motivator
Ideally a strong understanding of workflow, turnaround time pressures, lean six sigma, ‘delivering the day’, quality assurance, troubleshooting
The ability to be dynamic and responsive - able to react to changing priorities or a crisis, ‘thinking on their feet’ and remaining calm
Able to champion change and bring people along
