**About the opportunity**
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Seagrass Restoration will engage in project design and management, research, partnership and impact activities associated with the design and implementation of aquaculture-based measures that aid the propagation of seagrass to aid recovery of red handfish habitats. This will involve designing and managing a seagrass storage and propagation facility, contributing to the management of the system and husbandry of captive red handfish populations. The role will involve liaising with relevant stakeholders including government, researchers, and community. The role will also include conducting laboratory analysis and reporting.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Seagrass Restoration will have a documented research track-record in aquaculture research and will work collaboratively to improve the habitat and husbandry for critically endangered red handfish populations.
**What you’ll do**:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Undertake high-quality research/scholarly activities under limited supervision either independently or as a member of a team, publish research findings as sole author or in collaboration, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations for Level A.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally and nationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community
- Develop and undertake aquaculture and field techniques to facilitate the restoration of seagrass meadows at red handfish sites.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
**What we’re looking for**:
- A demonstrated ability and understanding of research in the field of seagrass restoration (seagrass cultivation, systems/technology and field-based experience would be preferred), demonstrated by a strong academic record.
- Project design and management experience including research impact and communication planning, supporting project leads, and contributing to positive research team culture.
- Administrative experience including successfully obtaining ethics, research governance and risk management approvals from relevant committees, Universities, and government agencies.
- Ability to dive on the UTAS dive register (including passing a commercial dive medical)
- A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive networks with the discipline, profession, industry (where relevant) and wider community.
**Salary details**
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level A and will have a total remuneration package of up to $121,737 comprising base salary within the range of $80,462 to $104,049 plus 17% superannuation.
