Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 18,000 people across a range of specialities.

The new system consists of three Melbourne metropolitan Public Health Units (North Eastern [NEPHU], Western [WPHU] and South East [SEPHU]), who are linked with the existing six Regional Public Health Units and the Department of Health (DH). SEPHU is led and coordinated by Monash Health and was established initially to strengthen the public health response to COVID-19 through end-to-end contact tracing and outbreak management, screening and vaccination. The unit enables the integration of care and public health functions, whilst enhancing the ability to rapidly respond to infection prevention issues, new cases and outbreaks within Monash Health and approximately 1.7 million people within local catchment areas. SEPHU’s public health functions are consistently reviewed and improved to meet the demands of our community.
