This role will see you become a leader, thereby enhancing your capabilities and the reputation of WSP’s Renewables Delivery team. You will collaborate with talented and diverse professionals working on iconic projects to drive future ready outcomes that will benefit clients and communities.
As the Technical Executive for Power Systems, you will be a leading voice for WSP's brand in the power systems space. The role encompasses capability development across WSP, supporting technical delivery for our projects and communicating WSP’s capability to clients and industry. Through these actions, the role is an important contributor to business growth. The role will address the key markets of offshore wind, onshore wind and solar, battery energy storage (BESS) and green hydrogen.
Our Energy team helps clients maintain secure and reliable power supplies, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and deliver future energy schemes to help our cities transition to a more sustainable world. Our team has expertise in solar, wind, hydropower, thermal energy, waste-to-energy and bioenergy, battery storage, network distribution and systems and automation.
WSP is committed to flexibility. This role is available from any of our Australian locations, with the majority of the Energy team being based out of Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney.
**What you’ll do**:
- Represent WSP in the power systems market, which includes the broad range of assets and skill sets related to:
- Design of substations and transmission lines
- Design and Owner’s Engineering for power generation plant, especially renewable generation
- Services for large power users including green hydrogen and other industrial plants
- Power system analysis
- Grow and nurture WSP’s technical capability in power systems through a range of actions including:
- Developing frameworks for technical development in power systems
- Mentoring and coaching other staff
- Delivering internal training
- Informing recruitment needs
- Oversee the technical verification of key deliverables
- Represent WSP and build the WSP brand through attendance and presentation at industry conferences
- Contribute to business development through connecting with networks and building relationships
- Lead, prepare and contribute to bids and proposals
**About you**:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
- Typically possess 15-20+ years’ of relevant experience
- Broad understanding of design and construction of power systems assets including transmission lines and substations
- Strong understanding of power flow in transmission and distribution networks, ideally with hands-on experience in power system analysis
- Understanding of HVDC and HV AC systems
- Strong understanding of the National Electricity Rules and the generator connection process
- Experience across a range of service types such as optioneering, conceptual design, detailed design and advisory
- Experience in project delivery in a consulting environment
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills including ability to communicate risk and communicate complex technical matters to non-technical audience
