This is an exciting time to join the energy industry as it transitions to a renewable future in this newly created position. Providing policy advice for ATCO’s regulated business and operations in Western Australia, you will be responsible for analysing current and proposed energy policies and regulations impacting operations and monitoring government engagement.
What You Will Do
Using your knowledge of government, this role will assist in advocacy to transition the gas distribution network to a renewable future and support the development of its next Access Arrangement.
Your contribution and responsibilities:
- Monitor the regulatory, economic and political environment that impacts ATCO’s gas network business, extracting key insights, and communicating them to key internal and external stakeholders
- Analyse and provide advice on policy developments, interpreting their impact and developing internal policies and positions that advance ATCO’s business strategy.
- Prepare briefing materials and presentations to support engagement with State and Federal Ministers, elected officials and government department and agency representatives.
- Build relationships with the government and maintain a national government engagement database to reflect engagements across ATCO’s executive team
- Prepare submissions on relevant issues to state and national departments or agencies.
- Participate in industry association meetings and committees, as required
- Work collaboratively to provide proactive and reactive government stakeholder engagement advice and expertise.
- Contribute to ATCO’s communications and gas advocacy engagement work concerning state, local and national government stakeholders.
What will you bring:
**Essential**:
- Minimum 1-3 years of direct and relatable experience in government or the energy industry
- Degree qualified in Economics, Commerce, or a discipline related to energy market policy and regulation.
- Sound knowledge of policy and/or legislative processes, including Cabinet and parliamentary processes, a strong working knowledge of relevant WA Government policies
- Knowledge of energy markets and regulatory bodies in WA and nationally
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complicated concepts in plain English.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively without significant oversight.
- Demonstrated project management skills, working on multiple issues and with tight timeframes.
- Be comfortable advocating for policy reform internally and externally
**Desirable**:
- Familiarity with the National Gas Law and Rules.
- Knowledge and understanding of commercial decision-making principles
