What you'll do
Lead the development and delivery of biorisk training for all staff to ensure staff are appropriately trained, enabling them to undertake their work effectively, informed inherent risks, safe working practices and processes while maintaining microbiological security and regulatory compliances
Provide high-level and authoritative advice and support to the Operations Manager, Public and Environmental Health laboratories, Pathology Queensland, on biorisk related matters, including up-to-date legislative and regulatory counsel to inform high-quality and considered decision-making.
Oversee the handling, storage, transport, and disposal of biological material in accordance with relevant regulations and standards.
Lead investigations into biosecurity and containment incidents, and work with laboratories and teams to establish improvements and reduce risk of reoccurrence.
Risk management, monitoring, and auditing. Maintain, review, and improve biorisk risk management processes, practices, and competency.
About you

Leads strategically - thinks strategically and acts on the broader purpose of the system, particularly in relation to biorisk, biosecurity and public and environmental health matters in the context of Queensland, Australian and international considerations.
Stimulates ideas and innovation - gathers insights and embraces ideas and innovation to inform future practice in the management of biorisks and biosecurity within PEHR/PQ Laboratories, and more broadly as required.
Makes insightful decisions - utilises their extensive knowledge of biorisk and biosecurity management to make considered, ethical, and courageous decisions based on insight into the broader biorisk, biosecurity, public and environmental health context at a state, national and international-level.
Builds enduring relationships - builds and sustains relationships to enable the collaborative delivery of customer-focussed outcomes, particularly in the areas of biorisk and biosecurity by anticipating the needs of and proactively partnering with others, providing strategic advice, and sharing information, including demonstrating outstanding communications skills.
Demonstrates sound governance - maintains a high standard of practice though governance and risk management, including the ability to review and establish biorisk and biosafety quality management processes, conduct audits on documents and processes, effectively manage risks and incidents and provide insightful reporting.
