Sessional Academic

**Who are we looking for?**

The Public Health Discipline within the School of Public Health and Social Work is looking for sessional academic staff to aid in the teaching of their post-graduate epidemiology course. The course covers the fundamentals of Epidemiology from both public health and clinical practice perspectives. Enrolled is a diverse range of learners such as Master of Public Health, Health Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Nursing and Clinical Ultrasound. Applicants are required to have completed post-graduate studies in Public Health, Epidemiology or similar that included foundational contemporary epidemiology. Previous teaching experience is preferred.
Sessional staff are required for:

- Conducting tutorials: 2 hour tutorials using prepared worksheets and slides involving review and problem solving in groups.
- Marking a critical appraisal.

Classes are scheduled weekly from week 1 (26 Feb) to Week 13 (May 27) (no classes in Easter break or week 7). Tutorials are scheduled Thursday: 8:00 am - 10:00 am; 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Other times may also become available. Marking is conducted from 27 May over three weeks.

**About the School of Public Health and Social Work Faculty of Health, Academic Division**

The School of Public Health and Social Work includes the disciplines of public health; health management; social work and human services; and health, safety and environment. The school is one of seven schools in the Faculty of Health.

**What do you need to succeed?**

**Successful applicants will have the following**:
Essential
- Post-graduate qualification in Public Health, Epidemiology or similar.
- Demonstrate a commitment to undertake (within 12 months), or have completed, one of the following:

- ‘Foundations of Learning and Teaching, Effective Communication and Academic Success’ workshops
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Post graduate studies in education and training
- Demonstrate a willingness to undertake an induction to QUT and complete mandatory on-line training as required for all staff at QUT.

Desirable
- Previous teaching experience

Successful applicants will be contacted and provided with semester based sessional teaching contracts. The expectation of the role is that appointees will also aid in marking academic assessments. Sessional contracts should only be accepted if the appointee is confident that they have the capacity to complete all appointed hours. The school reserves the right to alter a sessional contract (following discussion with the appointee) due to enrolment demands or when concerns are identified around the appointee’s commitment to the role.
