The Lower Hunter District is located north of Sydney and north and west of Newcastle. The Lower Hunter District encompasses 5,588 sq kilometres and services the Cessnock, Dungog, Maitland and Port Stephens Local Government Areas. With 44 Brigades, over 2080 volunteers and a total fleet of 150 vehicles, The Lower Hunter is characterised by large areas of rural, agricultural and forested lands and the diversity of settlement and industry lend unique operational challenges.

The role supports the smooth running of District activities including being responsive to enquiries, maintaining records and relevant information, monitoring responses to incidents and works in a timely and effective manner to support the team to protect the community.
- Provide high levels of customer service to internal and external customers and communicate effectively across all levels
- Possess an understanding of volunteer and community engagement.
- Show initiative, multi-task and prioritise workloads.
- Take initiative and support the team to achieve business goals.
- Show confidence in use of technology in particular Microsoft Office Suite.
- Adapt to changing situations and respond quickly.
