Our Sydney Adoption Centre is currently looking for a **Shelter Manager** to join our Animal Operations team on a permanent, full time basis.

The role will be Reporting to the Head of Animal Care (South), you will be responsible for RSPCA NSW shelter operations at our Sydney facility in accordance with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures, while ensuring that standards of animal care and wellbeing are continuously upheld and improved.

**About the Role**
- Ensure the RSPCA NSW site adheres to our organisational standards of animal care and wellbeing.
- Ensure all staff reporting directly or indirectly to the Shelter Manager are appropriately trained, and continuously and consistently supported, coached, and managed.
- Resolve customer and other service issues and/or complaints in a timely manner including appropriate reporting and disclosure to direct line manager.
- Consistently make decisions relating to animal wellbeing in line with RSPCA NSW policies, positions and frameworks.
- Provide advice on animal welfare matters to members of the public via direct advice or via referral to internal expertise.
- Develop and implement new initiatives to contribute to an increase in re-homing rates.
- Engage with the Shelter Manager group to contribute to a transparent and supportive management culture that ensures consistent standards across all sites and fosters an environment of continual improvement.
- Execute an effective, safe, and efficient operation for the facility by fostering a safe workplace culture in collaboration with the RSPCA NSW WHS team and in line with organisational policies and procedures.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels through the management, attraction and retention of professional talent.
- Support a team culture that aligns with RSPCA values.
- Work within financial delegation to make appropriate financial decisions within budget.
- Comply with all RSPCA NSW policies and procedures, as implemented, varied or replaced from time to time.
- Demonstrate personal leadership in the implementation of RSPCA NSW’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) management system, facilitate its effectiveness by ensuring adequate resources are available, and that all employees are aware of their WHS obligations, and that one’s personal behaviour model’s the organisation’s commitment to WHS.

**About You**
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in animal science or equivalent industry experience OR vocational qualification in animal studies or veterinary nursing or an associated industry.
- Diploma in Leadership and Management (or willing to obtain).
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment (desirable)./
- Full Class C Driver’s license.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a kennel, shelter or welfare organisation or facility
- Previous experience in people management and leadership, including proven ability in developing and coaching others, performance management, and recruitment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing budgets.
- Ability to and passion for working with people and animals, equally.
- Safety and compliance focus.
- Ability to build and maintain quality working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, work collaboratively and proactively support others.
- Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work autonomously, problem-solve, and use initiative.
- Developed animal handling skills using fear-free and low-stress approaches where possible.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to interact with individuals and groups effectively.
- Growth mindset with the ability to actively listen, process feedback, reflect, learn and help others learn.
- High level of integrity and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift 20kgs.
