**Job no**: 498035
**Work type**: Full time
**Location**: Hobart, Launceston, Burnie
**Categories**: Balanced Research/Teaching
**Your New Role**
Leading the College of Business and Economics (CoBE) and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Executive Dean of CoBE is an integral and valued member of the University’s Executive Team. You will play a key role in realising the University of Tasmania’s vision to be a place-based University with a mission to enhance the intellectual, economic, social and cultural future of Tasmania, and from Tasmania, contribute to the world in areas of distinctive advantage.
We have an ambitious agenda to expand Tasmania’s capacity for economic and social transformation, producing a sustainable and circular economy driven by regional distinctiveness. CoBE sits at the very heart of this and is therefore key to changing the trajectory of this island’s future. While such transformation might be possible in other places, here it can change the destiny of an island and its people. This will be at the core of all that you do, including the creation and delivery of various distinctive qualifications that contribute to that mission.
As we collectively work towards these goals, we do so in a world where business education is changing. You will have an appetite to see the University of Tasmania be at the forefront of that change. We are looking for change both in our Tasmanian offering but also in our newly established International School, which you will ensure the successful development of and our transnational education program which you will champion the continued success of. You will lead the University in rebuilding our international student profile and ensuring we remain a highly attractive option within a very competitive national environment.
In addition, CoBE plays an important role in supporting our pathways programs and seeing that emerging skills needs are best met with innovative education packages. Both of these roles are critical to our mission to expand access to higher education in Tasmania. You will be committed to these agendas and the continued development of innovative pathways programs. As you go about all of this, you will provide an aspirational vision, insightful academic leadership and overall strategic direction and management to CoBE. You will contribute effectively to an outstanding University experience for students, where we aspire for this to be well above the national average.
In collaboration with the University’s Executive Team you will provide exemplary strategic leadership and direction in all aspects of the College’s endeavour: in its research and research training, teaching, and learning, professional activities, and community engagement. You will nurture and facilitate career development in your colleagues, ensuring a collegial working environment where high performance is enabled and facilitated and balanced with care for people. This mission critical role will also see you actively manage and monitor the strategic performance targets for the College and collaboratively support the improvement of performance outcomes.
You will actively maintain and strengthen a positive culture marked by collaboration and productivity, which is relevant to local industries and communities, and will support the University’s goals of delivering place-based education and research with high impact for Tasmania.
**About the University**
Our story began a little over 130 years ago, in a sandstone building overlooking Hobart. Since those early days with three lecturers teaching eleven students, our purpose has remained the same. Through academic excellence, we make our home, and the world, a better place. While much has changed during the University’s history, our students have always been at the very heart of both who we are and what we are about.
We live and work on an island where tens of thousands of years of culture, knowledge and wisdom come before us. We profoundly acknowledge the traditional owners and their deep history with these lands and waters and their enduring culture whose system of knowledge is structured by place.
There is much humility to us achieving our vision. We are very aware of and attuned to the history with tragedy on this island. We know that the unique living knowledges of the traditional owners of this land can help shape the future.
The University recognises that achieving our vision also depends on the people we employ and on creating a people-centred University that is values-based, relational, diverse, and development-focused. Our focus on places underpins our approach to the delivery of our academic mission. Along with our own encounters with the island and its character, the experiences we offer students are shaped too by the island and what we find and engage with here. This brings them a distinctiveness found only here.
Responding to our unique setting and the challenges found here, we go beyond creating
