Reporting to the Manager - Laboratory Services, this role leads the Anatomy team and manages the anatomy laboratories. Additionally, it collaborates with the Manager - Laboratory Services to oversee the Anatomy Museum and Pathology Museum. Responsibilities for this role includes:
- Managing the Anatomy team including regular performance reviews, professional development, training needs of staff, developing and coaching team members, and assisting the Manager - Laboratory Services with recruitment.
- Managing and co-ordinating the anatomy laboratories, anatomy equipment, and chemicals to support student anatomy teaching and research.
- Setting up student practicals and trialling new student practicals and providing technical support to staff and students in practical anatomy sessions, including providing training and safety inductions to staff and students, and maintaining and updating risk assessments.
- Managing the maintenance of anatomy laboratory systems, guidelines, and standard operating procedures and ensuring compliance with relevant workplace health and safety and other regulatory requirements;
- Engaging with Academic staff to ensure optimal provision of high-level teaching and learning in anatomy and health sciences.
**About the person**:
The ideal applicant will have:
- A qualification in Health Sciences or Human Anatomy.
- Working knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements including the Transplantation and Anatomy Act 1979 (Qld) and work health and safety, with successful previous experience in the development and implementation of a risk management program, and the ability to train relevant staff and students in safe practices within laboratory environments.
- Previous experience working with, supervising, and developing team members.
- A commitment to continuous improvement / supporting a high-performing team.
- A high level of attention to detail and procedural accuracy, and proficiency in laboratory equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students and stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a keen attention to detail for accurate record-keeping.
- Effective organisational and time management skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks and show initiative.
- Experience in human specimen preservation and handling, including the preparation of anatomical specimens including proficiency in specimen preparation and prosection techniques.
- Experience in a higher education environment, along with proficiency in working with simulation manikins, audio-visual equipment, and teleconferencing systems, is highly desirable. A current driver’s licence will also be beneficial.
**Salary details**:
The salary for the position commences at $85,387.34 per annum, plus 12% superannuation.
