**About the opportunity**

Due to growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role is primarily responsible for assisting Corporate Counsel in the delivery of the Council’s legal needs and provide paralegal support to the Lawyers.
- Providing administrative services to the legal team
- Dealing with urgent matters in the absence of Lawyer and Corporate Counsel
- Preparing reports, correspondence, memorandums to Corporate Counsel and senior staff
- Researching, complying and keeping up to date with relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position
- Assisting in the provision of legal services including legal research, drafting and related activities.

**Qualifications and experience**

**Essential**:

- Diploma in Business Administration, Legal Services or a related field
- Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and commitment to providing excellent customer service internal and external
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement, discretion and confidentiality whilst meeting strict deadlines
- Understanding and commitment to ethical practice and acting with probity at all times
- Significant professional administrative experience (minimum 8 years)
- Experience using PEXA’s online electronic lodgement network.

**Desirable**:

- Experience in Local Government
- Availability to work flexible working hours
- High level competency in Technology One
- Knowledge of Court procedures and document presentation
- Knowledge of Courts, especially Land and Environment
- Current class C driver's licence
- Qualified as a Native Title Manager
- Justice of the Peace.

**Remuneration and benefits**

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
- Entry level for this position starts at $1,861.14 per week
- 35-hour working week
- Opportunity to participate in Council's flextime arrangement
