The School of Agriculture, Food & Wine is one of several Schools in the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and represents a world-class concentration of scientific research, education and product conferring capability, with infrastructure and resources at the Waite Campus of the University.
The School is the centrepiece of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest collection of expertise in plant genomics, crop improvement, sustainable agriculture, soil science, dryland farming, viticulture, and oenology. Research in these areas is targeted towards achieving sustainable agricultural production for healthier and environmentally resilient outcomes; optimising the economic and nutritional value of South Australia’s clean, green food and wine products; and assessing and overcoming current and potential environmental threats to a wide range of crops.
**To be successful you will need**:
PhD in plant biology or agriculture with appropriate industry experience
- Demonstrated research excellence in plant physiology, plant molecular biology, phylogeny, molecular evolution, bioinformatics, multi-omics, and programming skills in R and Python.
Demonstrated experience with the handling and maintenance of crops in field-based and controlled environments, and genetic transformation of cereal crops.
A strong track record of publishing in international peer-reviewed journals and demonstrated ability to write manuscripts for publication in internationally recognised high quality scientific journals.
Demonstrable ability to initiate and lead research activities, particularly strong collaboration and negotiation skills with domestic and international industry stakeholders.
Success in attracting and successfully supervising Masters and Honours students.
Excellent organisational, time management, intercultural and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organizational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, equity, diversity, inclusion, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
**Desirable characteristics**:
- Knowledge and connection of the Australian grains viticulture industry.
