We are seeking to appoint two Technical Officers (Music and Performance) in the School of Creative Arts and Media which is part of the College of Arts, Law and Education (CALE). CALE’s mission is to develop the next generation of thinkers and professionals in education, social work, law, media, policing and justice, and the cultural and creative industries. **The Opportunity**
Our team of Technical Officers support School programs across creative disciplines including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, media and e-media, object design, music, theatre and performance. Technical Officers provide technical knowledge, advice and skills to both staff and students in support of the broad academic program. As a Technical Officer (Music and Performance), you will provide support to programs across the School as a member of the Technical team, with a primary focus on supporting music, theatre and performance programs from the Hedberg, part of the Southern Transformation Project, where the University has made a significant investment in the creative arts as part of a vision for collaboration between community, industry and the University via creative projects. Technical and operational support for practice-based research, teaching and learning spans all music streams including classical, contemporary, music technology, writing, and music and theatre performances. Additionally, the role supports major recording projects and performance events, maintains equipment, studio and performance spaces, and assists users to navigate the creative and technology-rich spaces.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
- Assist with the coordination, preparation and maintenance of studio, performance and learning spaces, plant and sound equipment/instruments in the primary area of engagement, and across other areas as required. This includes storage, inventory control, procurement, record keeping and bookings for music equipment.
- Provide specialised technical support and assistance for the delivery of learning and teaching activity, along with assisting technology, logistics and execution of professional standard music and theatre performances, concerts and events (including liaison with Production Managers and with external professional personnel/musicians) and assist with documentation (video/photography) when required.
- Within the incumbent’s scope of expertise, induct users and supervise the safe and productive use of plant and equipment, ensuring excellent record keeping to support our people and ensure continuous improvement in healthy and safe workplace environments and behaviours.
- Undertake scheduled preventative work and on demand repairs and maintenance for School plant and equipment, make recommendations for equipment upgrades where appropriate, and oversee local technical materials purchasing.
**Your Application**
- A minimum of Diploma or Bachelor level qualification in music or sound production with relevant work-related experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Audio technology training and professional level studio recording, event production, post-production, support to complex recording environments, live sound scenarios across major genres including electronic dance, classical, and contemporary music.
- Technical skills and knowledge in the use of, and instruction and training of others in the use of, relevant plant and equipment and associated contemporary practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant workplace health and safety regulation and a history of behaviour that demonstrates a deep commitment to the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace.
**Remuneration**
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $96,794 comprising base salary within the range of $74,080 to $82,730 plus 17% superannuation.
